South Molton - Mindful Foraging Walk
Learn all about foraging for food from the wild
Service Description
An hour's walk starting from South Molton community woodland bottom car park. I will guide you around the community woodland showing you which plants are edible and how best to use them. This informative activity will help you gain knowledge to gather free food safely. This activity is suitable for one-on-one or groups of up to ten. Please come dressed appropriately and prepared for the weather. We will go over all safety precautions & legal information. There are seasonal variations on what wild food will be available, please bring a container if you want to take home foraged materials. If you have a particular area of interest please let me know at the start of the walk. Some topics that we can cover include: Drinks & infusions - Available March to November. Including information on herbal teas, tinctures, wines, infused oil, cordials, decoctions and coffee substitutes. Roots & leaves - Available March to November. We will explore seasonal edible and medicinal foliage and roots. We will not be digging up roots, but I will teach you about them. Pick a salad - Available March to November. Learn which leaves you can use in salads & how to prepare them. Preserves & baking - Available August to October. Learn about plants you can use to make flour, edible decorative flowers, & how to forage to create different delicious jellies, preserves and baked goods using apples, berries and nuts. Medicinal herbs - Available March to November. Information about medicinal plants, you may pick plants and flowers if wished but you must consult a trained medicinal herbalist and or your GP before consuming any homemade herbal remedies. We will learn about traditional folk remedies for minor ailments using wild-foraged plants and herbs. Mushrooms - Available in October. Information about mushrooms, there may or may not be edible fungi present. We will hunt mushrooms & practice identification, learn about how mushrooms interact with the environment & some specimens' particular uses. There are many fascinating facts I can share with you about mushrooms that will give you a satisfying brain buzz. I hold a foraging diploma certification and am fully insured to guide foraging walks. You are welcome to bring your dog as long as they will not be a distraction to your learning.
